Making Your Entrance
Entering and exiting highways safely are important safe driving skills. Even though most drivers maneuver safely on and off highways, this is not always the case.
You can’t just jet onto a highway. Neither should you enter a highway or major thoroughfare too slowly. There are rights and wrongs, all of which you can learn by taking a defensive driving class.
When entering a highway, you should proceed almost to the end of the entrance lane, using your side mirror to gauge the traffic that is approaching the spot at which you will be entering the highway. If it seems that no cars will be near to you when you enter the highway, then, you can enter at a normal speed, and then you must accelerate until you reach the speed limit. Do not slow down, and do not change lanes until you have carefully checked for traffic.
When you are about to enter a highway, and you see other cars approaching your entrance point, then you must slow down, even stop before you enter the highway, if you need to. Do not proceed until you know that there is enough of a break in traffic for you to be able to move onto the highway with plenty of room behind you. Once you are on, accelerate until you reach the speed limit.
There is much more to this important skill. You can learn more about it and about other safe driving skills by taking a defensive driving course online.

I thought you should just gun it and get into the flow of traffic and go go go... :) If you are a first time driver you can take a driving course to help you know all of the to do and not to do stuff.... Be safe.
