Put On That Belt

Wearing a safety belt every time you are in a car is one of the best ways of protecting yourself in the event of an accident. Seat belts save lives.

Some people feel that they do not need to wear a safety belt because, they say, after all, what is the chance of my having an accident? Others strap on their belts only when they are traveling far from home or only when they are driving quickly or only when they enter highways. Some people do not wear their safety belts because they fear being trapped by the belt in a burning or submerged car.

There is no good reason not to wear a safety belt at all times. In fact, there are many excellent reasons why drivers and passengers should always be belted in. It is also the law in every state, but New Hampshire. Different states impose different fines for violating the seatbelt law: Texas defensive driving course ($200), California online traffic school ($20), Florida online traffic school ($30), or Washington defensive driving class ($101).

Before you turn on your car’s ignition, that belt should be in place. Every person in the car should have his or her belt on too.

I took a defensive driving course and now I always wear my seatbelt even for short trips. Your seatbelt could save your life. Drive safely.
